In this transformation, our Danbury-based clients tasked us with designing a new patio to refresh the surroundings of their home.
The property is fortunate enough to have plenty of outdoor space but it required lots of time to maintain. With our clients wishing to spend more time enjoying their garden, a key design criterion was to reduce maintenance.
We achieved this by removing many of the shrubs and plants surrounding the outer patio perimeter and extending the lawn.
The old patio design was rather uninspiring and regimented, so we opted for a large sweeping curve to add interest.
Porcelain paving was the obvious choice due to its low-maintenance nature. We edged this with beautiful Marshalls sandstone setts in a contrasting colour – tying the paving in with the building.
A low brick wall – built from Marshalls Versuro sandstone paving – was used to retain the perimeter of the main seating area.
New timber fence panels were installed to provide privacy and a welcoming backdrop.
Finally, we introduced a different texture – resin-bound gravel – into the design to create a sweeping pathway leading through the existing timber pergola.
